Sawyer Slade Thackeray

Today Sawyer is one week old! He was born Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:42pm. He weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and measured 20 inches long. Sawyer was totally worth the 25 hour labor :) Slade stuck by me through the whole thing even though he was sure he'd lost his wife to a moaning crazy person. Sawyer is such a good baby! Also very healthy! His APGAR score was a 9/10 (we're bragging already).

Getting ready to leave the hospital. He was our little gangster. Newborn clothes were still too big for the little guy.

Sawyer's favorite way to sleep... on Daddy's chest

Hands always up to his face

This boy smiles A LOT! We know he doesn't know what he's doing just yet, but he smiles a lot in his sleep.

First bath. He loved it!

KC Crossroads Art District

Last night Slade and I went to the First Friday event in the Crossroads District downtown. It's held on the first Friday of every month. All local galleries, restaurants, and shops open their doors to the public! You'll likely see all kinds of musicians and jewelry vendors along the way! It's a great experience if you're into crowds and all of the artsy stuff. Lately we've been watching a show on Bravo called "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist." There is a woman from KC on the show, Peregrine Honig. I wanted to see some of her art in person, but ended up stumbling upon her boutique, Birdies! We stopped in to look around and she was standing at the counter as we walked in! Star-struck, I just found a book and tried to lay low. Slade thought I should go up and talk to her, but I was too nervous. On our way out she stopped me and said she wanted me to try some things on that she thought I'd really like. Turns out she seemed to be a really sweet person and tried to meet my needs as the "Pregnant Lady" and future mom. Anyway, it was a great experience and I wish I wouldn't have been too scared to talk to her about things from the show and how she was able to start up her own boutique (my dream!).

This is Peregrine.

This is her boutique.

Slade and I browsed a few galleries and furniture shops after that and it didn't take too long before I was ready to go. On our way back to the car we found some Back to the Future cars!

I think we were both tired, but I wanted to get a picture of us there before we left because it may very well have been our last date before we have the baby...

Ice cream sounded pretty good, so we went to Skies and shared a Sky High Pie after we left :) I wish we could have stayed out longer, but I had a great time! Love you Huz!

Baby Shower

Last weekend we had our baby shower. It was hot, sticky, and eventually wet. Chanda took charge and did great with everything! It was great seeing old friends and family, thanks to all who came and participated! You made it really special for us!

Bottle chugging contest... half of them cheated.

Guess the candy bar in the diaper!

So happy Aunt Kindra and cousin Elsa made it!

Getting ready to open gifts. I never take pictures of "the belly," so here's a profile of it.

Between hand-me-downs from family and gifts from the shower, I'd say we are all set and ready for baby Sawyer to come!

While I'm on the subject, I will give an update on how things are going. We just had a doctor's appt. today and things are going great! We are 37 weeks and the baby is a normal size according to the midwife. We learned that he has dropped after she felt for his head. Apparently the baby is supposed to come two weeks after it drops for first time moms (so says our midwife). If this is the case, then he's set to be born a week before his due date.... wishful thinking? Probably so!

Smithville Lake

Smithville Lake is about our only option for a cheap thrill around here in Missouri, but we love it! It's so much fun taking friends and family out on our little boat! Nate wanted us to take him out to the lake for his birthday, so we did. Here are a few pictures...

This is actually a photo of Slade from last year. I would have taken some of him during this trip... but someone's gotta drive!

Later that night we ordered our favorite wings from Pizza Hut: Wing Street... all in all a great night!

Definitely a Thackeray!

Sawyer was quite stubborn throughout the whole session. He DID NOT want to move his hands from his face! And when the technician thumped on my stomach to get him to move this is was his response...

....Hint: His hand was still in front of his face.

I guess we'll let the gesture slide for now.

Big yawn. They had me eat and drink caffeine before coming in to make sure he'd be active during the session. You'd think he'd be bouncing all over the place after a huge chocolate bar and Mountain Dew, but he wasn't. The technician had me jumping and skipping around all over the room trying to get him to move, and all he did was mock us... yawning the whole time :)

Baby Thackeray

These are the ultrasound photos that were taken when we were 19 weeks. There's really only one that turned out well ("well" meaning one in which he doesn't look like a fish or extraterrestrial).
